What Is the PYP Program?
Have you heard about or are considering a PYP Program for your kindergarten-aged child? PYP stands for Primary Years Programme and is part of the International Baccalaureate Organization, and with private schools making up 25% of schools in our nation, this program is growing in popularity.

Private school kindergartens near you may have PYP Programs you are able to enroll your child in, so here is everything you need to know about them, including key concepts.
What Are PYP Programs?
PYP is the framework of academic and cultural development for those aged three to 12 in a whole-child concept. Learning emphasizes awareness and understanding where there are many questions and answers. Children are encouraged to ask whatever is on their minds and seek out answers instead of memorization. They are requested to explore and ponder concepts they learn about!
There are five elements, and these include key concepts, agency, action, knowledge, and the approach to learning. Children learn about local and global perspectives at an early age and are developed to be principled caring individuals who are thinkers, risk-takers, and communicators. The goal is to serve a more philosophical approach to learning where the child not only learns what an answer is but why and what it means to them in the big picture.
PYP Key Concepts
Private school kindergartens utilize a few key concepts under PYP programs. These concepts are timeless, universal, and abstract, and each leads to a question. These key concepts and associated questions are as follows:
•Form – What is it like? What can be observed or identified?
•Function – How does it work? What is its purpose?
•Causation – Why is it like this?
•Change – How it is changing? What is the process of the change?
•Connection – How is it connected to other things?
•Perspective – What is the point of view? What is the interpretation of the perspective?
Responsibility – Who is responsible? What are the results of the action?
